An Evening with Patrick Alexander
Apr 02, 2025
Starting: 7:00 PM
Journey through the remarkable transformation of a wilderness outpost into one of America's highly regarded planned communities. 100 Years of Coral Gables: An Evening with Patrick Alexander takes place Wednesday, April 2 at Books & Books in Coral Gables, as part of the city's centennial celebration.
Alexander will discuss his new book Coral Gables: The First Hundred Years, which chronicles George Merrick's vision of converting his family's modest homestead into a garden city. The book traces the area's evolution from its humble beginnings in 1900 to its current status as one of the world's most desirable residential communities.
The author brings a unique international perspective to this local history. An English-born writer and educator, Alexander has lived and worked across four continents before settling in Miami, where he teaches wine appreciation, history and literature. He is also known for The Booklover's Guide to Wine, based on his popular wine appreciation program.
