Casandra: Archipiélago
Mar 21, 2025
Starting: 8:00 PM
A powerful solo performance examines housing insecurity, isolation, and human displacement through an evocative theatrical lens. Archipiélago takes the stage at the Sandrell Rivers Theater on Saturday, March 22 as part of the Casandra IX International Women's Festival.
Written, directed and performed by Spanish artist Begoña Caparrós, this thought-provoking work follows three characters temporarily housed on a boat after being displaced from their homes. Inspired by real events and developed through artistic residencies in Bogotá and Madrid, the production draws parallels to the mythical ferryman Charon, exploring themes of transition, loss and the fundamental human need for shelter and connection.
The piece emerged from Caparrós's investigation into gentrification, urban displacement and elderly isolation, initially developed with Colombia's National Company of the Arts and later supported by Carlos III University and the Carasso Foundation. This performance is part of a broader festival celebrating women's voices in theater arts, presented by El Ingenio Teatro, featuring theatrical plays, dramatic readings, concerts, workshops, and exhibitions from artists around the world.
