Fat Ham

Shakespeare meets Southern hospitality with a dash of disco in Fat Ham, GableStage's South Florida premiere running on select dates between May 16 and June 15. This innovative production, co-produced with Brévo Theatre and Island City Stage, reimagines the iconic Hamlet through a contemporary lens.

Instead of a Danish castle, the drama unfolds at a North Carolina family barbeque. Juicy, a Black queer youth, grapples with the weight of family history and a vengeful ghost's demands. Hilarious and thought-provoking, Fat Ham explores themes of family legacy, personal responsibility and forging one's own path. The play, penned by Pulitzer Prize-winner James Ijames, offers a fresh and captivating take on Shakespeare's timeless themes.
