Holst's The Planets

Embark on a musical journey from the depths of the ocean to the vastness of the cosmos as The Cleveland Orchestra, under the direction of Daniel Harding, presents Holst’s The Planets at the Adrienne Arsht Center on May 2-3, 2025. The evening begins with Edward Elgar’s Sea Pictures, a lyrical song cycle that offers a perfect showcase for the rich contralto of Avery Amereau, evoking the majesty and mystery of the sea. The program then shifts to Gustav Holst’s iconic orchestral suite The Planets, where each movement captures the unique character of the planets, from the fierce rhythms of Mars, the Bringer of War to the exuberant melodies of Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity.
