An accomplished music educator and saxophonist carries forward a family legacy of jazz excellence in South Florida. The Melton Mustafa Jr. Quartet performs at Lummus Park on Sunday, April 27, as part of the Ocean Drive Promenade Music Series.
A three-time Grammy-nominated Music Educator quarterfinalist and recent performer at the Jazz in the Gardens Festival, Mustafa follows in the footsteps of his father, celebrated jazz trumpeter Melton S. Mustafa. His musical journey includes leading the saxophone section of Florida A&M University's Marching 100 and performing at the Apollo Theatre with the FAMU Strikers. Currently, he serves as a music educator at Parkway School of the Arts and as an adjunct professor at Florida Memorial University.
Attendees are encouraged to bring picnic blankets or lawn chairs to enjoy the free outdoor concert, which takes place between 14th Street and 14th Place. In case of inclement weather, the performance will move to The Betsy Hotel.
The Ocean Drive Promenade Music Series is made possible through support from The City of Miami Beach, The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau and The Ocean Drive Association. These free concerts occur every Sunday, offering regular opportunities to experience live music in one of Miami Beach's signature public spaces.
